Marcus Liufau-Wright
Marcus Liu-fau-Wright, a former E-4 Marine Corporal, served four years active duty in the United States Marine Corps as a cook and as security. Marcus toured  Afghanistan and participated in Operation Enduring Freedom. In this interview, Marcus discusses his love for spoken word, his experiences in boot camp and in Afghanistan, and the stuggles with homelessness, depression and suicide amongst veterans. In addition, Marcus explains the importance of responsibility, humility, and transition from active military duty to college student life.

Zachary Hardcastle
Zach Hardcastle shares his experiences while serving in the Marine Corps. Zach served four years in the United States Marine Corps. Zach is thankful for the experiences he had while serving. He found that the best way to get through the day while in the service was to take it one hour at a time. This way he was motivated to accomplish goals and to push through struggles knowing that there was something coming next to look forward too. Zach noticed when he transitioned back to civilian life and as a student that he could use the tools and strategies that helped him be successful in the USMC.


Calvin Coleman
Calvin Coleman served thirty years active duty in the United States Marine Corps as a Sgt. Major. Calvin was deployed overseas ten times, starting his career as an infantry machine gunner. In this interview, Coleman discusses his reasons for entering the service and joining the Marine Corps.  He describes the responsibilities of his occupation as a machine gunner, his multiple deployments overseas, and his experiences in combat.  In addition, Coleman discusses his life after the service, how his military experiences have affected him, and his transition into the campus community.

Eddie Robinson Jr.
Eddie Robinson Jr. served four years active duty in the United States Marine Corps in Motor Operations Support.  He was deployed overseas in Afghanistan while in service.  In this interview,  Eddie Robinson discusses his reasons for entering into the service and joining  the Marine Corps. Eddie speaks about his immediate family, and the inspiration they brought on his choice to join the Corp and serve his country.

Jeremiah Wilson
Jeremiah Wilson served six years active duty in the United States Marine Corps as a machine gunner (0331). He was deployed overseas to Iraq, where he was awarded his combat action ribbon. He also was deployed on a MEU. In this interview, Jeremiah shares his reasons for entering the service and joining the Marine Corps. He describes his occupation as a machine gunner, his multiple deployments, and his experiences dealing with the VA. Jeremiah shares his injuries he suffered while serving, and explains why this was the reason for him getting medically separated from the Marines. Jeremiah explains how he wants to use his education to help other injured veterans by becoming an occupational therapist assistant (OTA).

Gerald Borja
Gerald Borja served eight years active duty in the United States Marine Corps as a Motor Transportation Specialist. He served overseas multiple times during his enlistment as security personnel for the 1st Medical Battalion based out of Camp Pendleton California. During the interview with Gerald Borja, he touches on the reasons why he joined the Marine Corps and also recounts conflicts he encountered on deployment. In addition, Sgt Borja elaborates on his current dreams and goals now that he has entered back into civilian life.

Javier Guerra
Javier Guerra served 12 years active duty in the U.S.  Marine Corps as an artillery man. In our conducted interview, Guerra discusses his reasons for entering the service and becoming a Marine. He explains the responsibilities and how the learning styles presented  in all the Military schools' differentiated the styles of learning needed to succeed in college. Guerra discusses his life as a student and peer advisor after the service, how his military experiences have affected him, and his transition into college.
Rachel Davis 
Rachel Davis served five years active duty in the United States Marine Corps as an Intelligence Specialist. She was deployed overseas two times for a total of 12 months while in service. In this interview, Davis discusses her reasons for entering the service and joining the Marine Corps. She describes the responsibilities of her occupation as an Intelligence Specialist, the teaching done at the Schoolhouse, and her experience while she was deployed. In addition, Davis discusses her life after the service, how her military experiences have affected him, and his transition into the campus community.


Ismael Sotelo
Ismael Sotelo served four years active duty in the United States Marine Corps as an artilleryman. He was deployed overseas to Japan, South Korea , and off shore by the phillipines.In addition, Sotelo discusses his life after the service, how his military experiences have affected him, and his transition into the campus community. He describes his time in the Marines to be a learning experience, especially when it came to gaining a new life perspective and respect for others and how it greatly differed from what he experienced when he came to MiraCosta and how he was able to apply the .He also goes on to describe how he has become more grateful for the life he has after seeing those without and how he wouldn’t
